Appreciation for Randy Pausch
Mark on July 28th, 2008
You’ve probably heard about Randy Pausch, the Carnegie Mellon professor who gave his now famous Last Lecture after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. He died a few days ago.
What an amazing and inspirational guy. He spent the last year of his life sharing his journey and inspiring millions of people to live fully.
Here he is on Oprah, talking about fulfilling childhood dreams:
Mark, THANKS for honoring this great teacher. I was among the many who learned much from his life.
Hi Mark,
He was an inspiration to many. How wonderful that his teachings were documented, not only via YouTube, but in his book, as well.
Lisa & Barbara - thanks, glad you appreciated him!
Did you hear how he made his book? To keep fit, he rode his bike and dictated his story to his writer friend via cell phone.
Mark, the bike thing is an example of his great time management. His wife didn’t want him taking time away from the family to write a book. But since he had to ride his bike anyway (for medical reasons), he found a way to write a book that would take no extra time at all!
Wow! What a healthy attitude for such an unhealthy body. Ironic….
Thanks for sharing.
Hunter - thanks for elaborating…wow, very cool, I wasn’t aware of that.
Laurie - yeah. People like him are pretty rare. Warren Zevon was also a huge inspiration to me. After his diagnosis he was cracking jokes left and right. Role models, both.
“This speech isn’t about death, it’s about life. . . If you live your life the right way your dreams will come to you.” This man was amazing.
