“I always thought I should be treated like a star.” - Madonna

Today at Creative Journey Cafe, let’s share some inspiration.

Here are a few things that are inspiring me this week:

1. A comic by Michael Sloan called Zen of Professor Nimbus.

2. Madonna’s latest video.

3. The new TV spot for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

4. The daily blog of illustrator/painter James Gurney, creator of Dinotopia.

5. Prince showing the kids how it’s done at the Coachella Festival.

What about you? What are you excited about this week? What’s inspiring you?

  1. Thanks for this - the James Gurney blog looks very interesting. I couldn’t access the Madonna song - which one is it?

At the moment (I know you know this first one) I’m inspired by :-

1)Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain - a fascinating look at how to learn to see as an artist sees.

    2) This video which I just discovered on Youtube (My favourite singer David Fonseca combined with a very talented young guy who creates stop motion animation) http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=mxUn4Bhl2eg User name is okkohartt if you need to search on the US site “Dreams in Colour”

Imajica by Clive Barker - Wonderful imagination and a beautiful main character. My second time reading it :-)

Suzi Blu http://suziblu.blogspot.com/ Cute multimedia artwork and inspiring and funny video art journal blog. I love how her personality shines through everything she does.

  2. Leah - thanks for the cool links! I particularly like the David Fonseca video. Mesmerizing!

And yes, James Gurney shares terrific daily insights about drawing and painting. Hope you’re enjoying drawing on the right-side of your brain! Be sure to update on your progress.

Oh - and the Madonna song is “4 Minutes” - her latest hit. Serious rump shaker, that.

  3. Hi Mark,

This week my “gratitude journal” has been inspiring me. Each day I write ten things I’m grateful for, and the entries I’ve been making keep a smile on my face.

Dr. Phil had a show on yesterday about compulsive hoarders, and that inspired me to simplify my life even more than it is.

The book written by Wayne Dyer, titled “Inspiration” is inspiring me, as is “Your Best Life Now” by Joel Osteen.

  4. Barbara - the gratitude journal is a great idea. Personally, I find that keeping this blog forces me to stay inspired no matter what else is happening. Pretty neat.

Dyer is awesome, and I recommend subscribing to Joel Osteen’s podcast. It is truly uplifting week after week.

  5. Hi Mark!

Glad to find you on BlogCatalog (although technically you found me first…) Here’s my list for this week:

1)”The Dip - A Little Book That Teaches You When to Quit(and When to Stick)” by Seth Godin
    2) The photos here: http://www.smashingmagazine.co.....nd-photos/
    3) The beautiful 7am sunlight on Saturday (I rarely get up so early on a weekend, it was such a treat)

And right now, Creative Journey Cafe, heh. :)

    cheers,
    M

  6. i’m inspired by:

    1. osama tezuka’s “phoenix” manga series. (I can’t wait to read Vol. 5)
    2. Led Zepplin’s ‘Rain Song’ on Houses of the Holy
    3. Melody Master Jerome Kern’s “Dearly Beloved”.
    4. Beautiful spring days in the Arnold Arboritum. Practicing Taijiquan with friends while pink and white flower petals swirl around us on the wind!!!!

  7. Ginger, those photos are amazing. I’m all inspired-out, after looking at half. :P

  8. @Ginger - Hi and welcome! Glad you like the cafe. Seth Godin rocks. Super-cool photos - thanks!

@Cliff - You painted an amazing “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon”-type of picture in my head re: practicing your martial art at the Arboritum. How awesome!
