What Makes You Stand Out?

What can you do that I can’t do?

Do that!

Sometimes it’s easy to wish we were more talented in other areas. We take our own skills for granted.

I wish I could play the flamenco guitar. I wish I were more business savvy. I wish I were good at fixing stuff…

I hear this one a lot - “I wish I could draw. I can’t even draw a stick-figure.”

But consider this: when you walk into a crowded room, what expertise do you possess that nobody else does? Even if it’s a room full of your creative peers - what unique style, trait, or edge do you have that they don’t?

Be glad for it. Embrace it. Hone it. That’s your gift. Be thankful. Offer it to the world. We need you!

  1. Excellent questions! I really like your style. I’m inspired to discuss a similar concept on my site. Thanks! Keep up the great work!

  2. Thanks Miguel, I appreciate it!

  3. Ok…I most DEFINITELY agree that we take our skills for granted. I mean have you ever really thought about and written what you’re good at? Literally put the pen to paper?
Have you ever sat in the work-place a little displeased with your job thinking…”ugh, I want something more. But what am I good at?” When you get to the skills section of your resume it’s a start but it doesn’t really answer it all.
I like the idea of picturing a crowded room and honing in on your skills. I’d write those down on paper then ask for critiques from those closest to me. Then just live it every day!
    Thanks for the uplifting post!
